1. Strategy Buys 34,164 BTC - Third Largest Purchase on Record
$2.54 billion. 34,164 BTC at an average of $74,395. Third-biggest single purchase Strategy has ever made.
Total holdings: 815,061 BTC, acquired for $61.56 billion at an average cost basis of $75,527. At $75K BTC they’re basically break-even on cost. Which means Saylor bought near the top of the current range, not at the dip.
The purchases were funded by preferred stock (STRC) sales plus common stock offerings. The STRC bi-monthly dividend proposal makes more sense now - it’s a capital raise vehicle as much as a yield product. Each issuance raises dry powder for the next BTC purchase.
815K BTC. The accumulation doesn’t stop at round numbers.
CoinDesk: Strategy buys 34,164 bitcoin for $2.54 billion, third-largest purchase on record
2. Spot BTC ETFs: $1B Weekly Inflows - Highest Since January
Spot Bitcoin ETFs pulled in roughly $1.3 billion in net inflows in March, the strongest week since January, per Deutsche Bank’s retail survey. That’s the second signal alongside Strategy’s buy that institutional money is moving back in despite retail sentiment staying cautious.
The survey also shows U.S. retail crypto adoption bounced back to 12% in March from a February low of 7% - returning to July 2025 levels. The majority of respondents still expect lower prices ahead, but they’re buying anyway.
Bearish sentiment, bullish flows. That divergence matters. When retail capitulates but institutions accumulate, the next leg tends to catch retail off-guard.
CoinDesk: U.S. crypto adoption is rebounding, bitcoin still dominates, Deutsche Bank says
3. Polymarket: $400M at $15B - Prediction Markets Are Serious Infrastructure Now
Polymarket is in talks to raise $400M at a $15B valuation, potentially totaling $1B with additional strategic investors. This follows ICE’s $600M investment last month.
For context: Kalshi doubled to $22B after a $1B raise. Polymarket was at $9B in October 2025. Both platforms are now being valued like financial infrastructure, not crypto gambling apps.
The prediction market sector crossed a threshold when ICE (NYSE parent) put $2B into Polymarket. That’s not a crypto bet - that’s a traditional exchange operator positioning for the next generation of market data and price discovery.
Decrypt: Polymarket in Talks to Raise $400M at $15B Valuation
4. Kelp vs LayerZero: The Blame Game Begins
Predictable but worth watching. Kelp DAO pushed back on LayerZero’s post-mortem, claiming the “default” LayerZero settings were the actual cause of the $290M exploit, not Kelp’s configuration choices.
LayerZero’s position: Kelp ignored multi-verifier recommendations and ran a 1-of-1 verifier setup. Kelp’s position: the defaults should have been safer.
Both are partially right. The attack only worked because Kelp ran a single-verifier configuration - but LayerZero’s defaults apparently didn’t make the risk obvious enough. The legal and financial implications of the blame attribution will determine who covers the $290M loss.
Watch for insurance claims and DAO governance votes over the next 30 days.
CoinDesk: Kelp DAO claims LayerZero’s ‘default’ settings caused the $290M disaster
5. BIS: Global Stablecoin Rules Are Falling Apart
BIS General Manager Pablo de Cos warned Monday that international stablecoin coordination has stalled. Bank of England Governor Andrew Bailey confirmed progress on global frameworks has slowed. Without coordination, firms shift to lighter-oversight jurisdictions - regulatory arbitrage at scale.
This lands differently in the context of the CLARITY Act. The U.S. is moving on its own timeline. France is pushing euro stablecoins. The BIS wants global alignment. Central bankers are debating whether to allow yield on stablecoins, whether to require central bank backstops, and how to limit sudden withdrawal risk.
Nobody agrees. The stablecoin sector hit $250B+ in circulating supply while the rulebook is still being written.
CoinDesk: Global stablecoin rulemaking slows, BIS urges cooperation
6. XRP Ledger: Quantum-Resistant by 2028
Ripple published a multi-phase roadmap to make the XRP Ledger quantum-resistant by 2028. The urgency: Google research showing future quantum computers could derive private keys from exposed public keys in nine minutes by 2032.
Active testing starts H1 2026. A hybrid system runs alongside existing cryptography before full transition. There’s also a “Quantum-Day” contingency plan if Q-Day arrives before the 2028 deadline.
XRP Ledger has an advantage here: native key rotation lets users migrate to quantum-safe accounts without changing their underlying account addresses. Most other blockchains don’t have this.
The 2032 timeline for Q-Day is speculative, but the 6-year runway Ripple is building assumes some of that uncertainty is real.

7. Trump Move BTC More Than Any Policy Event
Five documented cases where Trump’s social media posts or press statements triggered 5-12% BTC swings in either direction. CoinDesk mapped them all. The pattern: Trump posts something about crypto/tariffs/Iran, market reacts within minutes.
This creates a structural problem. BTC is increasingly pricing presidential attention, not fundamentals. The $2M/tanker toll model for Hormuz is one thing. Trump posting “I love Bitcoin” at 3am is another.
Insider trading concerns are real. The pattern is documented. The SEC hasn’t moved yet but the congressional pressure is building.
CoinDesk: Five times Trump’s statements moved bitcoin, and why it might happen again
8. BTC $7.9B Options Expiry This Week
$7.9 billion in Bitcoin options expire this week. Max pain is at a price level that makes this expiry significant - if BTC holds above max pain, short-term liquidity will be bullish into the weekend. If it drops, the expiry amplifies the move.
Combined with Strategy’s $2.54B buy and $1.3B ETF inflows, the tape for this week is set up with institutional bid on one side and options expiry mechanics on the other.
CoinDesk: Here’s how bitcoin’s $7.9 billion April options expiry impacts prices
9. Coinbase UK: Borrow USDC Against BTC and ETH
Coinbase expanded its crypto-backed lending to UK users. Pledge BTC or ETH as collateral, borrow USDC via Morpho on Base without liquidating your position.
This is the infrastructure play. Coinbase owns the fiat on-ramp (exchange), the L2 (Base), and now the lending layer (Morpho). The UK launch is also a regulatory signal - this product cleared UK FCA oversight, which is notably tighter than the U.S. had been before CLARITY Act clarity.
Decrypt: Coinbase Now Lets UK Users Borrow Against Their Bitcoin and Ethereum
10. Hilbert Group: Liquidity Tightening Ahead
Hilbert Group CIO Russell Thompson flagged a sharp tightening in global liquidity expected near-term, with BTC facing pressure before U.S. policy action provides relief. The thesis: liquidity conditions drive BTC more than narratives, and the current environment is tightening.
Combined with the CME gap traders are watching and the DeFi hack fallout still working through the system, the short-term setup is less clean than the institutional inflow picture suggests.
The longer-term institutional bid is real. The shorter-term liquidity squeeze is also real. Those can coexist.
CoinDesk: Bitcoin faces near-term pressure as liquidity tightens, Hilbert Group CIO says

11. Arbitrum Freezes $71M of Kelp Exploit Funds
Quarter of the $292M haul has been recovered. Arbitrum’s Security Council froze 30,766 ETH - roughly $71M - in an intermediary governance-controlled wallet on Monday night. The freeze was taken with law enforcement input on the exploiter’s identity.
This is the best-case DeFi governance scenario: L2 security council moved fast, coordinated with law enforcement, and locked a significant chunk of stolen funds before they could be laundered. The funds are now only accessible through Arbitrum governance action - they can’t go anywhere without a public vote.
The Kelp-LayerZero blame debate is now compounded by a recovery question: if $71M is frozen on Arbitrum, who gets it? Kelp DAO users? Aave depositors who were locked out? The precedent this sets for exploit recovery governance is as interesting as the technical story.
CoinDesk: Arbitrum freezes $71 million in ether tied to Kelp DAO exploit
12. BTC Back to $75K - Iran Ceasefire Deadline Tomorrow
BTC at $75,733, up 1.5% on the day. Iran confirmed it’s sending a delegation to Pakistan for ceasefire talks. The two-week ceasefire expires Wednesday evening Washington time. Trump has said he’s unlikely to extend it.
The pattern: each diplomatic signal opens a brief window of risk-on, BTC pops a few percent, oil eases, equities rally. The market is trading short-cycle geopolitics - buy the ceasefire rumor, sell if talks fail.
Three vessels attempted Hormuz transit early Tuesday with both blockades still in place. Wednesday is the real test. If the ceasefire holds, BTC has room to run toward $77K+. If talks collapse, we re-test $73K.

13. Crypto Fund Inflows: $1.4B, Strongest Since January
Third consecutive week of positive flows. $1.12B into BTC products alone. ETH had its best week since January at $328M. Total crypto fund AuM hit $155B.
The divergence: XRP and Solana bled $58M combined while Bitcoin and Ethereum absorbed over $1.4B. Institutional money is consolidating into the top two. Switzerland was the outlier - $138M outflows while the U.S. added $1.5B.
YTD BTC fund flows are now at $3.1B. That’s institutional conviction, not trading noise.

14. NSA Using Mythos While DoD Sues Anthropic
The contradiction at the top of the U.S. government: the NSA is running Claude Mythos Preview inside classified networks, while the Department of Defense - which oversees the NSA - declared Anthropic a supply-chain risk in March and is currently fighting them in federal court.
An administration source told Axios that every federal agency except DoD wants access to Anthropic’s tools. The NSA is using Mythos for Project Glasswing - defensively scanning their own infrastructure for the zero-days the model is capable of finding. The irony is that the most dangerous AI capability in the U.S. government is being used by the agency that is technically under the organization suing to block it.
Meanwhile Dario Amodei met with the White House Chief of Staff and Treasury Secretary last Thursday - described as productive by both sides. The DoD lawsuit appears increasingly isolated.

15. North Korea’s Crypto Heist Playbook Is Evolving
The Drift ($285M) and Kelp ($292M) exploits were less than three weeks apart. Total: $577M from two attacks, both attributed to Lazarus Group. This isn’t a string of opportunistic hacks - it reads as a coordinated campaign against DeFi infrastructure.
The evolution: Drift used social engineering (fake job recruiter, malicious package). Kelp used RPC node poisoning - a fundamentally different attack vector targeting infrastructure, not code. The same group ran two completely different attack methodologies in the same month. That’s operational diversity that suggests specialization within the team.
North Korea needs hard currency. Crypto is accessible and hard to claw back. The attacks will continue.
CoinDesk: North Korea’s crypto heist playbook is expanding and DeFi keeps getting hit
16. Aave Could Face Up to $230M in Bad Debt From Kelp Fallout
The cascade is still running. Aave could absorb up to $230M in losses from the rsETH collateral used in the exploit. The mechanism: attackers deposited stolen rsETH as collateral against Aave loans. If rsETH can’t be recovered or redeemed at par, the loans are undercollateralized. Aave’s safety module (a reserve fund) would have to absorb the shortfall.
$230M is an upper bound - the actual loss depends on how much rsETH can be recovered (see Arbitrum freeze above) and whether Kelp can make depositors whole. The governance process for distributing recovered funds will determine this.
CoinDesk: Aave could face up to $230 million in losses after Kelp DAO bridge exploit
17. Tim Cook Stepping Down September - Ternus Takes Over
Confirmed. Tim Cook steps down in September, replaced by John Ternus - the hardware engineer who led Apple Silicon, the M-series chip transition, and every major hardware product line for the last decade. Cook built the operations and distribution machine that turned Apple into a $3T company. Ternus built the chips that kept it there.
The succession question was always about whether Apple would pivot toward services (Cook’s world) or double down on hardware differentiation (Ternus’s world). The answer is clear. Apple is betting its next decade on compute hardware - the same bet that produced the M1 and made Apple Silicon the baseline that Intel and AMD are still catching up to.
18. CLARITY Act Banking Lobby Delay - The Mechanism Is Now Clear
Senate Banking Committee markup delayed to May. The specific blocker: banking lobby opposition to yield-bearing stablecoins. They’ve pushed Tillis (key swing vote, NC) to add a provision banning yield payments on stablecoins.
Moody’s said Monday that stablecoins won’t threaten banks near-term. The banking lobby’s objection is now revealed as margin defense, not systemic risk management. If stablecoins can’t pay yield, they can’t compete with bank deposits for savers’ capital. The playbook is legible.
19. Ripple’s Quantum-Resistance Roadmap - Why 2028 Matters
Ripple published a four-phase plan. The urgency comes from a Google research paper showing future quantum computers may be able to derive private keys from exposed public keys in around nine minutes by 2032. XRPL has an advantage most chains don’t: native key rotation - users can migrate to quantum-safe keys without changing their account addresses.
Phase 1 starts H1 2026: active testing of post-quantum cryptography alongside existing systems. Phase 4: full deployment by 2028. The 2032 Q-Day estimate gives 4 years of buffer.
Most blockchains haven’t started this work. The ones that don’t will face a forced migration under deadline pressure.
20. RaveDAO: $6.6B Wipeout After ZachXBT Calls for Investigation
RAVE token shed over $6.6B in market cap after blockchain investigator ZachXBT called on Binance and Bitget to investigate trading. The music stopped fast - the token collapsed within hours of the public callout.
Pattern: ZachXBT flags suspicious trading, exchanges probe, investors panic-sell. The market now prices ZachXBT’s attention as a signal. That’s an unusual amount of influence for one person, but it’s earned through consistent correct calls.
