Saturday edition. Quieter news cycle but a few items worth tracking.
1. Bitcoin Takes Another Run at $80K
BTC is pressing toward $80K again as stocks rise and oil drops on Iran optimism. The technical setup is clean - consolidation after the April rally, institutional accumulation visible on chain.
Ark Invest put a number on it: $16 trillion market cap by 2030. That’s roughly $800K/BTC. The thesis is institutional adoption compounding from current levels, driven by ETF flows, corporate treasury allocation, and the macro case for hard assets in an era of fiscal expansion.
2. Tether: $1.04 Billion Q1 Profit, $8.23 Billion Reserve Buffer
Tether posted $1.04 billion Q1 profit. Reserve buffer at $8.23 billion. The company that issues the most widely used stablecoin in the world is generating more profit than most mid-sized banks.
The political context: Senator Warren is questioning the Tether/Lutnick connection, and the Senate is moving on stablecoin legislation. Tether’s numbers make the policy argument harder to ignore - the business is too large to remain unregulated indefinitely.
3. An AI Agent Formed Its Own Company to Trade Crypto
The headline is real: an AI agent registered a company and is preparing to trade crypto. The full story involves a legal structure designed to give an autonomous agent the ability to enter into contracts and hold assets.
This is the first step toward agents as economic actors, not just tools. The regulatory framework doesn’t exist yet. The technical capability apparently does. Worth watching how this plays out as the CLARITY Act and stablecoin legislation develop - agent-as-legal-entity is a question those bills will eventually have to answer.
4. Ethereum Foundation Sells 10,000 ETH to BitMine
The Ethereum Foundation sold 10,000 ETH to BitMine as part of its treasury strategy. This is the ongoing EF diversification away from holding all reserves in ETH. Operational sustainability for a public goods organization - not a statement about ETH price direction.
5. Canadian Pension AIMCo: $69 Million Unrealized Gain on Strategy
AIMCo, one of Canada’s largest pension funds, bought the dip on Strategy (formerly MicroStrategy) and is now sitting on $69 million unrealized gain. Institutional pension money in crypto-adjacent equities is the slow-moving tide that doesn’t make headlines but moves the baseline.
6. mattpocock/skills: Now 52K Stars (Still Trending)
Yesterday it was 49K. Today 52K, with 3.6K added in 24 hours. The skills ecosystem is having a moment. Warp, TradingAgents, and browserbase/skills (Claude agent SDK) all trending alongside it.
The week’s theme: agent infrastructure is being built in public, in real time, faster than any top-down framework could coordinate it.
7. Bittensor (TAO) +5.5% Leads CoinDesk 20
TAO leading the index higher. The AI-adjacent crypto narrative is holding. When the skills ecosystem, the subliminal learning paper, and GBrain v0.23.0 all land in the same week, TAO being up makes sense.
Seven items. Bitcoin at $80K and the AI agent company story are the ones to watch.
